His rigorous training under legends like Sangeet Kalanidhi Kumbakonam Rajamanickem Pillai, Musiri Subramanya Iyer, and others at the prestigious Music Academy of Madras laid a strong foundation for his illustrious career. Supported by veteran violinists and mridangam maestros, Kannan gave his first stage performance at nineteen and never looked back.

Career

Although he established himself as a stellar performer, Srirangam R. Kannan's passion for teaching led him to Banaras Hindu University. Starting as a Lecturer and eventually becoming a Reader, he invigorated the spirit of Carnatic music among his students and peers. Kannan maintained the highest traditions of shruti (pitch) and laya (rhythm), earning admiration from experts and laymen alike. His humility and simplicity endeared him to many, making him a cherished figure in musical circles.

Kannan authored two significant works: "Tyagaraja Kruti Sangrah" and "Muthuswami Dikshita Kruti Sangrah," the latter being translated into Hindi with notations in the Bhatkhande system. Govindrajan, is a celebrated vocalist and a leader in All India Radio's Commercial Broadcasting Service.

ಆರಂಭಿಕ ಜೀವನ:

ಜೂನ್ 15, 1924 ರಂದು ತಮಿಳುನಾಡಿನ ತಿರುಪ್ಪಪ್ಪಲಿಯೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಶ್ರೀರಂಗಂ ಆರ್. ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಂಟನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ವಿದ್ವಾನ್ ರಾಜಮ್ ಅಯ್ಯಂಗಾರ್ ಅವರಿಂದ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪಾಠ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬಾಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಲಾನಿಧಿ ಕುಂಭಕೋಣಂ ರಾಜಮಾಣಿಕಂ ಪಿಳ್ಳೈ, ಮುಸಿರಿ ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ಅಯ್ಯರ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ದಿಗ್ಗಜರಿಂದ ಮದ್ರಾಸ್‌ನ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಸಂಗೀತ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಠಿಣ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆದರು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಲವಾದ ಅಡಿಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಹಿರಿಯ ಪಿಟೀಲು ವಾದಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಮೃದಂಗ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ಬೆಂಬಲದೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಶ್ರೀರಂಗಂ ಆರ್. ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಹತ್ತೊಂಬತ್ತನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ರಂಗ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದರು.

ತಾರ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಕರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರೂ, ಶ್ರೀರಂಗಂ ಆರ್. ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಅವರ ಬೋಧನೆಯ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವು ಅವರನ್ನು ಬನಾರಸ್ ಹಿಂದೂ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದು ತಂದಿತು. ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾಗಿ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಗೆಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಿದರು. ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಅವರು ಶೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಲಯದ ಅತ್ಯುನ್ನತ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು, ತಜ್ಞರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಂದ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ನಮ್ರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸರಳತೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಅಪ್ಯಾಯಮಾನವಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಸಂಗೀತ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು.

ಕೃತಿಗಳು:

ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಅವರು ಎರಡು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ: "ತ್ಯಾಗರಾಜ ಕೃತಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ" ಮತ್ತು "ಮುತ್ತುಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಕೃತಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ", ಎರಡನೆಯದು ಭಾತಖಂಡೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಕೇತಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. 1945 ರಿಂದ ಆಲ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ರೇಡಿಯೊದ ಉನ್ನತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯ ಕಲಾವಿದರಾದ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ ಅವರ ಅನೇಕ ರೇಡಿಯೊ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಮತ್ತು "ಸಂಗೀತ ವಿವೇಚನ್" ನಂತಹ ಧ್ವನಿಮುದ್ರಣಗಳು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿದ್ದವು.

ಕುಟುಂಬ:
